How many time have you seen a high school or summer league practice whereby, every player is being conditioned the same exact way? I have and in fact, I'd done the same when I coached. It was more of the "team," mentality that seemed to overshadow logical thinking or better yet, trained thinking.
What I'm alluding to is the fact that everyone can achieve a higher level of fitness on an individual basis, rather than a collective one. I say this wholeheartedly, because most coaches aren't trained to fully understand exercise modifications, based upon each player's individual profile. Similarly, certain exercises may impede progress and/or injure a player, entirely.
Let's discuss a standard "plank" exercise, for example. In this pose, most of your musculature is forced to perform an isometric contraction. This translates, roughly to elevated blood pressure and we all know the possible dangers in this regard, especially if combined with elevated outdoor, temperatures. I'm not suggesting that a coach should eliminate this exercise. However, they must know what can be done to possibly counter the effects of hypertension that may occur, from it. In addition, they must offer alternative exercises for the hypertensive athlete!
There are no two people alike and that's the beauty of being unique! Therefore when designing a training regimen, many factors must be taken into consideration- some of which are aforementioned.
Consequently, I propose that coaches, players and parents work in conjunction with a trainer that specifically studies exercise; Its natural progression; Exercise contraindications; Individual athletic, potential enhancement and/or injury likelihood as a result of poor exercise choice, etc.
Although it's a great mindset to undertake as a player and/or coach, whereby "TEAM," Together...Everyone...Achieves....More, it is also imperative to understand that a team is comprised of individual talents, strengths and weaknesses, underlying injuries, endurance levels, muscle fiber types, personalities, etc.
In conclusion, let's keep all of these factors in mind such that, "Training...Encompasses.....Alterations...and....Mindfulness!" Therefore "Together Everyone Achieves More!" TEAM!
